Are you ready to become a Newsela Certified Educator?

Newsela Certified Educators are innovative educators and school leaders. Our NCE program recognizes their creative classroom applications of Newsela instructional content and connects NCEs with an exclusive community to learn and refine best practices.

As Newsela influencers, NCEs are invited to provide product feedback and receive advance notifications about feature releases. NCEs are empowered to share their Newsela strategies at local workshops and national conferences and are eligible for Newsela Edu Scholarships to support their advanced professional learning. Most importantly, we've seen that NCEs have a big positive impact on student reading engagement in their own school communities.More reading means more learning.

To become a Newsela Certified Educator, Newsela PRO educators can complete a self-paced online training program or in-person workshop. Throughout the course, you will review the basics of Newsela and work towards designing meaningful classroom applications such as an instructional Text Set for immediate implementation.

Take a look at a few exemplary instructional Text Sets made by elementary and secondary NCEs.

Learn why these star teachers and school leaders became NCEs

Jim Bentley

5th Grade Teacher, Northern California

"I became a Newsela Certified Educator to join a community that could help me learn how I could best use this platform to make reading personalized and powerful for each of my students. Being an NCE has connected me to new ideas, other educators, and impactful strategies to elevate reading in content areas for my students."

Nancy Biddinger

District Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, Florida

"I support K-12 in a large district. I needed to know as much about Newsela PRO as possible so that I could support teacher planning, identify resources, offer suggestions to match the tool to the instruction, troubleshoot, and more."

Tami Flood

Lead Teacher/Tech Coach, Pennsylvania

"I used Newsela as a classroom teacher and found it to be the MOST effective way to provide quality resources to teach my social studies students. Not only that, but Newsela's feature, which allows teachers and students to adjust reading levels, offered unprecedented accessibility and equity to many of my students with special needs. Now, as a technology coach and Newsela Certified Educator, I have the opportunity to support teachers and students with Newsela beyond my own classroom walls."

Tyler Overstreet

High School History Teacher, Illiniois

"I became a Newsela Certified Educator when I started using Newsela in my classroom. I instantly saw the value and impact Newsela was having in my classroom and it made me want to take a deeper dive into the program to make sure I was maximizing its potential in classes."

Leticia Citizen

K-8 Instructional Technology TOSA, Southern California

"I became a NCE because I LOVE what Newsela does for my students. Newsela provides opportunities for my students to 1) engage with meaningful nonfiction text about present-day and historical happenings, 2) work collaboratively with their peers to make connections, draw conclusions, infer, and practice other reading strategies, and 3) choose their favorite topics to read, annotate, and amplify their voice by sharing what they learned in creative ways."

Lisa Neihouse

9th Grade and PreAp Physical Science Teacher, Arkansas

"I jumped at the chance to become an NCE! I already knew how much I loved Newsela since I was using it in my Physical Science curriculum as a very heavily embedded item to engage students and make science relevant to the world. When I first started on the Newsela platform, I could see Newsela was not a stagnant website. It was constantly improving and moving its technology forward in a very helpful manner."
